We booked a last minute trip to Mexico to relax and celebrate Shaelyn's continuing recovery.
With ongoing physio and support at the Children's Hospital with the Complex Pain Clinic, Shaelyn continues to get stronger. Lower lumbar facet joint issues with nerve compression was Shaelyn's diagnosis. Unfortunately, this condition typically does not show up in spinal MRI's. She went through a spinal procedure where she was given anesthetic and a block, with steroid injections in two joint areas to reduce inflammation. Shaelyn stood up and began to take steps the day after the procedure.
Dr. Farran is a very special doctor in Shaelyn's eyes and she calls him Dr. Magic. "He has the Magic and knows what he is doing. He took my pain away." This is what she said after he injected three medications into her intervenous when she went into one of her extreme pain episodes at the hospital. At this moment, Dr. Farran knew Shaelyn had issues in her facet joints. She still struggles with fatique and walking long distances is difficult yet. The bad news is that there is no guarantee this won't happen again. She is back to school now on a part-time basis until she is able to take more on. Thanks for the cards, teddy bears and support we had during this difficult time. Thanks as well to the staff in the Neurology/Spine Unit, Physio and Complex Pain Clinic team at the Children's Hospital. Your care and treatment was outstanding.
